Agneepath dominates Mirchi Music Awards

MUMBAI: Leading the charts with its hit music album, Agneepath also dominated the fifth Mirchi Music Awards by bagging a total of seven awards.

The film picked up trophies for Song of the Year – Abhi Mujh Main Kahin, Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year – Sonu Nigam (Abhi Mujh Main Kahin), Female Vocalist of the Year – Shreya Ghoshal (Chikni Chameli), Music Composer of the Year – Ajay-Atul (Abhi Mujh Main Kahin), Song representing Sufi tradition of the year - O Saiyyan and Technical Song recording/ Sound Engineering of the year – Deva Shree Ganesha.

Following up with two awards was Student of the Year and Vicky Donor. While Student of the Year picked up the Worldwide Listeners' Choice Song of the year – Radha and Worldwide Listeners' Choice Album of the year; young singer Ayushmann Khurrana picked up the awards for Upcoming Music composer of the year and Upcoming Lyricist of the year for the track Paani da Rang.

Other major winners of the night included Javed Akhtar (Lyricist of the Year – Jee le Zara for Talaash), Arijit Singh (Upcoming Male vocalist of the year- Duaa for Shanghai), Neeti Mohan (Upcoming Female vocalist of the year – Jiya Re for Jab Tak Hai Jaan) and Satyamev Jayate (Indipop of the Year) amongst others.

Special awards were also conferred upon Asha Bhosle (Mirchi Hall Of Fame), Amitabh Bachchan (Living Legend With Golden Voice), Ameen Sayani (Contribution to Music) and the film Baiju Bawra (Salute to the Golden Era).

The ceremony also witnessed performances by renowned singers like Sonu Nigam, Mamta Sharma, Neeti Mohan, Mohit Chauhan, Meiyang Chang, Mika Singh, Himesh Reshammiya, Sajid-Wajid, Shalmali Kholgade and more. The award was hosted by Ayushmann Khurana.

The Mirchi Music awards were judged by a panel of distinguished jury members, veterans and maestros of the Indian film music industry who stand out for their personal achievements, passion and their immense love for music.

The panel this year comprised of Ramesh Sippy, Ashutosh Gowariker, Sooraj Barjatya, Prasoon Joshi, Anu Malik, Aadesh Srivastava, Lalit Pandit, Louiz Banks, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Alka Yagnik, Sadhna Sargam, Suresh Wadkar, Talat Aziz and Ila Arun.
