Aerosmith's members to be inducted in Songwriters Hall of Fame

MUMBAI: Renowned American rock band Aerosmith’s members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are amongst the list of 2013 inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Hard rock legends Tyler and Perry have accumulated over 150 million album sales, four Grammy awards and are the only 2013 Songwriter's Hall of Fame inductees who are also members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The duo has released around 15 studio albums over the course of their long career. Amongst their penned hits include ‘Walk this Way’, ‘Toys in the Attic’, ‘Back in the Saddle’, ‘Draw the Line’, ‘Rag Doll’, ‘Dude Looks Like a Lady’, ‘Love in an Elevator’, ‘Livin' on the Edge’, ‘Cryin’ and ‘Crazy’.

Apart from them, the list also includes British songwriter Tony Hatch, British-American duo Mick Jones and Lou Gramm from the rock group Foreigner, Tina Turner songwriter Holly Knight and J D Souther, who helped write hits for 1970s rock group the Eagles.

Hall of Fame chairman Jimmy Webb said in a statement, “Each of our 2013 inductees has been responsible for captivating the world with their creativity for decades, serving up a rich variety of songs for our global soundtrack.”

The five inductees were selected on the basis of votes by a panel of music industry members. They were selected from a list of 24 nominees released last year. The songwriters will be officially inducted at the 44th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner ceremony on 13 June in New York City.

In addition to their yearly inductees, the Songwriters Hall of Fame also has a list of special awards including the Abe Olman Publisher Award, Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award, the Towering Song Award, the Towering Performance Award and the Hal David Starlight Award. The recipients of the awards are yet to be announced.

The Songwriter's Hall of Fame honours musical artists who have made significant contributions to the world of music over their lifetime. Of the thousands of songwriters who have created music over the past couple of centuries, only 400 have been inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
