Aashiqui 2 is my dad's blessing: Tulsi Kumar

MUMBAI: Daughter of music industry's mogul Gulshan Kumar and sister of the reigning music baron Bhushan Kumar of T-Series, Tulsi Kumar is one of the melodious voices of the Indian music industry today. She may have a powerhouse music brand T-Series behind her, but Kumar is known more for her work as a singer than her family connections. She had a platform to enter Bollywood, yet it has not been an easy path to success.

Hailing from a family who is passionate about music must have helped singer Tulsi Kumar to perceive her musical career, but her talent and music skills have lead her to musical success and she believes this as her father’s  blessing. She started off her career by rendering devotional numbers, before she moved on to playback singing for bollywood.

Today with numerous tracks in Bollywood movies, the singer has come a long way. Having rendered her voice in many films like ‘Ready,’ ‘Once upon a time in Mumbaai’, ‘Billu’ and ‘Dabangg 2’ to name a few, she has already rendered for ‘Aashiqui 2’, ‘I Love NY’ and ‘Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi’.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com about Mohit Suri’s Aashiqui 2, Kumar said, “I am very emotional attached to the film ‘Aashiqui 2’ as my dad had worked too closely with the 1990’s Aashiqui. It’s my father’s blessing that I got to sing two tracks of the film. It was his wish and blessing that I become a playback singer.”

She added, “The soundtrack for the film is composed by Jeet Ganguly, Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari. It was really wonderful experience working with Jeet Ganguly.” The promo of its first song named ‘Tum Hi Ho’ was released on 23 March. The soundtrack is expected to release on 5 April.

The music of ‘I love NY’ has been launched digitally by the music label T-series’ Juke box (YouTube channel). This again has two tracks rendered by Kumar. She said, “Both the tracks are duet ‘Aao Na’ is with Sonu Nigam and ‘Halki Halki’ is with Shaan. I have worked with Nigam before and singing with him again was really a great experience. I have rendered in low-key vocal which is different from what I usually do. With Shaan it’s a romantic track which is situational based. I am giving a playback vocal for Kangana and my voice suits Kangana. I had rendered for her in ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’ also.”

Apart from that, Kumar has also rendered a track titled Talash for Aman Sachdeva’s film ‘Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi’ single track Talash. “This song was fun singing as it is a mimic track. It was a great learning experience,” she added.
