'A Spiritual Morning' concert at Gateway of India

MUMBAI: Music maestros Rajan and Sajan Mishra will perform a concert 'A Spiritual Morning,' on 25 March at the Gateway of India.

The two-hour concert also features Rajan Mishra’s sons - Ritesh and Rajneesh on tanpura and vocal support. The concert held under the aegis of Elephanta Festival 2012 is organized by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation.

Pancham Nishad director Shashi Vyas said, “The cultural heritage of our country is vast and needs no explanation. Our spiritual music today is hymned all over the world. This is the first time that the next generation talented vocalists are brought together with the torch bearers of Banaras Gharana on the same platform for a morning concert. They will begin at the stroke of sunrise and as the sun becomes brighter the maestros will perform some of the choicest morning ragas. The idea of commencing the concert at dawn gives the audience a chance to listen to some soul-stirring morning melodies that are best appreciated only at this time.”

Earlier, spiritual morning concerts have witnessed performances by some of the eminent artistes of Indian classical music like Pandit Jasraj, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Shivkumar Sharma, Kishori Amonkar, Rashid Khan, Shankar Mahadevan, Amjad Ali Khan and Ustad Zakir Hussain.
