3-month Bandstand Revival Projects kicks off
MUMBAI: The Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry began the third year of the Bandstand Revival Project in Mumbai on March 12. The Bandstand Revival Project is a blend of music by various bands of Mumbai. The program featured live performance by Pradakshinam and Bombay Bassment at Malabar Hills, Hanging Gardens, on Saturday, March 12.
The program, to continue till end-May, will feature live performances by institutional police band and youth bands till May 28 at Malabar Hill - Kamla Nehru Udyan, Dadar Chowpatty, Veer Prabhu Deshpande and Sant Dyaneshwar Udyan (next to Kirti College, near Shivaji Park) and Carter Road Amphitheater, Bandra.
The principal objective of the Bandstand Revival Project is to promote traditional and cultural links in the city by recreating an environment from the 1800s, by reinstating live bands performances in open areas in the evening hours. Besides, it is also an attempt to encourage outdoor gigs in the city, other than those available for a price at commercial establishments. They aim to provide a platform for youth bands to showcase their creative talent to a diverse audience.
