3 Idiots tops music nominations at IIFA 2010, wins 4 technical awards

MUMBAI: International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) has announced the nominations for the 11th Micromax IIFA Awards 2010 to be held from 3-5 June. 3 Idiots led the way in the music category sweeping five nominations. The film has also grabbed four Technical awards which have already been declared.

Following is the haul of awards that 3 Idiots won in the Technical music category. Bishwadeep Chatterjee & Nihal Ranjan Samal won the honors for Sound Recording. Chatterjee won another award for the film for Song Recording along with Sachin K Sanghvi. Anup Dev grabbed the trophy for Sound Re-recording while Sanjay Wandrekar,Atul Raninga and Shantanu Moitra won the award for the Background Score 

In the popular awards, the best Music Direction nominees are Shantanu Moitra for 3 Idiots, A R Rahman for Delhi 6, Pritam for Love Aaj Kal, Amit Trivedi for Dev D and Vishal Bharadwaj for Kaminey. In the Best Lyrics category following lyricists are nominated- Swanand Kirkire for 3 Idiots, Prasoon Joshi for Delhi 6, Irshaad Kamil for Love Aaj Kal, Gulzar for Kaminey and Amitabh Bhattacharya for Dev D.

In the Playback Singer Male category the singers nominated are Mohit Chauhan for Masakali from Delhi 6, Atif Aslam for Tu Jaane Na from Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for Aaj Din chadiya from Love Aaj Kal. 3 Idiots managed to score two nominations with Sonu Niigaam for his rendition of All Izzz Well and Shaan for Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh. Following are the nominees for the female counterparts in this category- Shreya Ghoshal for Zoobi Doobi from 3 Idiots, Kavita Seth for Ektara from wake Up Sid, Rekha Bharadwaj for Sasural Genda Phool from Delhi 6, Sunidhi Chauhan for Chor Bazaari from Love Aaj Kal, Shilpa Rao for Moodi Moodi from Paa and Tulsi Kumar for Hafiz Khuda from 8X10 Tasveer.

Commenting on the nominations for IIFA 2010, Wizcraft director Sabbas Joseph said, Colombo, Sri Lanka marks the second decade of IIFA, with the best of Indian cinema being showcased. The nominees for the Micromax IIFA Awards 2010 are a compilation of the best work from the previous year and the suspense and celebration of these worthy nominations will undoubtedly create another magical IIFA....

The online voting for the awards will go live on www.iifa.com on the 10 May and will be open to audiences of Indian Cinema, across the world. The voting will end on the 1 June, 2010. The results of the online voting would determine the winners of the popular category, which would be announced on stage at the Micromax IIFA Awards presentation ceremony in Colombo's Sughathadasa Stadium.
