Times Music launches 'Tana Riri'

MUMBAI: Times Music presents TANA RIRI, an exquisite collection of Tansen's timeless Malhar compositions rendered by Arati Ankalikar and Devaki Oandit.

This album is based on the legend of Tansen, the greatest musician of Emperor Akbar's reign and the two sisters Tana and Riri. Emperor Akbar once entreated Tansen to sing Raag Deepak(The Raag of Lights0. Tansen compliedand so lights lit up in the court. However this also affected Tansen since he felt the sickening effect of extreme heat and exhaustion heat and cimbustion and fell ill. Tansen could find no cure for his ailment until the two sisters Tana and Riri, upon his request sang the Raag Malhaar which brought cool showers of rain and cured Tansen completely.

Such is the legend of Tana and Riri which comes to life with this musicial album that is sure to delight afficionados of Indian Classical Music for ots rich content and ethnicity.

This album is an elegant camaraderie of solo and duet melodies comprising of Raagas such as Raag Megh Malhar, Raag Miyan Malhar, Raag Sur Malhar and many other shades of Malhar. Renowned classical vocalists Arati Ankalikar and Devaki Pandit display their unshaken singing powess and lend a nostalgic effect to every sylaable and note that they sing. The album concludes with a Raagmala (Medley of Raagas), composed by Devaki Pandit and sung by both Arati Ankalikar and Devaki Pandit, that marksa tribute to the greatest musician of all time, Tansen, and the two legendary sisters, Tana and Riri.
