Raj Kapoor entered the film industry as a clapper boy in the late 1930s and went on to become an Indian Silver Screen Icon. Starting his career with Neelkamal' in 1946, Raj Kapoor produced and directed several blockbusters including `Aag', `Barsaat', `Awara', `Shri 420', `Prem Rog', `Bobby', `Ram Teri Ganga Maili' and `Sangam' among others.

Kapoor grew up surrounded by Indian films and began his career as an assistant to leading Indian directors at the Bombay Talkies Studio.

Making his film debut at the age of 11, Kapoor acted and sang in many plays at the Prithvi Theater. In 1948, he opened his own studio - RK Films - directing, producing, and acting in the studio's first movie, Aag (Fire).

Raj Kapoor had a master's touch for successfully incorporating music into his movies. Utilizing the talents of playback singer Mukesh, Kapoor combined the musical traditions of India with Western influences. Kapoor's song Mera Joota Hai Japani' remains an unofficial anthem of India and continues to be sung, as far away as, the former Soviet Union.

Raj Kapoor passed away on 2nd June 1988. He had once said, Whenever I die, take me to my studio – for it is possible that amidst the glitter of all the light, I may get up again and shout Action! Action! . . . the showman is no more, but the show still goes on . . .
