Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj achieves an adventurous musical feat

MUMBAI: At the age of 82, Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj is travelling to the South Pole, Antarctica achieving an adventurous musical feat and is the first ever Indian musician to perform Indian Classical Music there. He is expected to return on 22 January, 2012.

The concert was held on 8th January, 2012 at the Antarctic Circle aboard the Sea Spirit Cruise - Oceanus Lounge. His performance marked in all likelihood the first instance of music to reach the South Pole.

The Padma Vibhubhushan awardee has now performed in every continent viz. Asia, Australia, Africa, Antartica, North America, South America, and Europe. We are checking if both these can be claimed as records. The year 2010 also saw the famed octogenarian touring the North Pole; he was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Madhura Pandit Jasraj – daughter of the legendary director V. Shantaram.

Pandit Jasraj belongs to the Mewati Gharana', one of the foremost Indian musical tradition and has the voice that erases the geographical borders and breaks religious barriers and shines on the musical horizon as Sangeet Martand' – Sun of Music'.
