Peshkaar world music fest in Mumbai on 31st January 2012

MUMBAI: The Shyamal Music Foundation (SMF) along with TaDhaa Music is organising the 'Peshkaar' World Music Festival for the first time in the city at the Nehru Centre on January 31, 2012 at 6.30 p.m. This is an annual fund-raiser in aid of cancer patients and will be featuring a host of musical talent from India and abroad.

The first part of the show entitled 'Ravi Chary Crossing' will feature sitar maestro Ravi Chary performing together with tabla wizard Aditya Kalyanpur, drum prodigy Gino Banks and guitar genius Sheldon D'Silva. The next segment 'Global Conversation' will witness the fusion of several creative musicians such as saxophone legend George Brooks, violin wizard Kala Ramnath,flute maestro Rupak Kulkarni, guitarist Sheldon D'Silva and tabla maestro Aditya Kalyanpur, keyboard player Gulraj Singh and Drum expert Mukul Dongre.

SMF is a trust founded with the objective of promoting the art of Indian Classical Music in India and overseas and to simultaneously provide a platform for young and upcoming musicians to showcase their talent. This apart, SMF provides financial assistance for needy cancer patients. Mr Aditya Kalyanpur heads the trust and is well known as one of the foremost disciples of the late tabla maestro Ustad Allarakha and tabla legend Ustad Zakir Hussain. Mr Kalyanpur founded the trust in 2007 in memory of his mother who died of cancer and who herself was keen on promoting musical talent.

TaDhaa is a popular syllable popularised by the late Allarakha and is also the name of the music company/label founded by Mr Prasad Tendulkar and Mr Taufiq Qureshi with a vision to release good music irrespective of its genre as also to organise events of elegant standard for connoisseurs of music. The event management is handled with efficiency by Mr Tendulkar who strives for maintaining a high standard for the label.
