Nine FM scales new heights

MUMBAI: Nine FM became the first FM station of the country whose flag was hoisted at the highest peak of Kangri region. According to the CEO of NINE FM, Mr. Bobby Gupta, the FM station had supported the expedition to Stok Kangri undertaken by the Nature and Trekkers' Association for the noble cause Keep Himalaya Clean.

�Nature and Trekkers' Association' is a forum of nature loving people of northern part of West Bengal. 11 expeditors of the region including one woman trekker was flagged off on 26th June from Jalpaiguri, a district town of northern West Bengal and returned back on 14th July.

The first base camp was Monkarmo, a village of Kangri region situated on 14,600fts above sea level. Followed by the second camp at 16,400fts in said the group members  The four members who had reached the summit had started their journey at the midnight of July 5and reached the summit at 9.15am of the next day.

This expedition had a unique cause according to the team leader of the group, Bhaskar Das. Our aim behind this expedition was to create awareness on keeping the Himalaya clean,... he said. Stock Kangri is a popular destination for expeditors so lots of garbage is spilled around the region. Waste food cans, tins, oxygen tubes, plastic bags are the most littered garbage in the region. We collected around 60 kilos of waste materials left behind by trekkers and handed over to the Leh Administration, Das added.

During the felicitation function of the expedition team at the Nine FM studio in Siliguri on July 20, Mr Bobby Gupta said that their organization is extremely privileged to be a part of this unique expedition. He further said that radio can play a pivotal role in bringing about awareness by proper campaigning.
