Music launch of Road to Sangam

MUMBAI: Music launch of �Road to Sangam' at the hands of reformed criminal Lakshman Gore.

Tom Alter began the function by introducing the common man who was going to unveil the music album of the film Road to Sangam. Lakshman Gore is a criminal with 18 crimes recorded against him. Not even once was he proved guilty. But then he happened to read the autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi �Experiments of Truth.' He was affected so much that he wrote a letter to the judge pleading guilty to all charges against him. Served his sentence and is now a social worker.

Another common man at the music launch function was the real Hashmat Ullah, the man whose character Paresh Rawal is playing in the film. Last in the trilogy of common man and non celebrities was Tushar Gandhi-great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi. Along with Paresh Rawal, Tom Alter, Pavan Malhotra, director Amit Rai and producer Amit Chheda they launched the music.

Other celebs present were Poonam Jhavar, Swati Chitnis, Sandesh Shandilya, Govind Namdeo, Nitin Kumar Gupta, Prem Haria, Vijay Mishra *Presented by Gipsy Films, *Hindi feature film* Road to Sangam *is a mix of reality with fiction to bring in the surreal influence of history with contemporary  An urn of Mahatma Gandhi's Ashes is discovered in vault of a National Bank as late as in 2000. Tushar Gandhi decides to immerse the ashes in Sangam at Allahabad. He wants to carry the procession on the same truck that had carried Bapu's ashes in 1948.

A God fearing, devout Muslim mechanic named *Hashmat Ullah* (Paresh Rawal), is a renowned mechanic by profession. He is entrusted the job of repairing an old V8 Ford Engine, unaware that it was once used to carry ashes of Mahatma Gandhi to immerse in the �Sangam' of holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and invisible Saraswati. Its historic significance becomes Hashmat Ullah's bane and salvage.

A powerful bomb explosion rocks his town leading to the arrest of Muslim youths of his locality and Hashmat is caught in the vortex of this complex situation. A strike to close shops and work is called by the prominent community Leaders Mohammed Ali Kasuri (Om Puri) & Maulana Qureshi (Pavan Manhotra) to protest against the unjust treatment meted out to those arrested youths by the police.

Based on this fulcrum, Road to Sangam..., a confluence story of heart, mind and soul, is woven around the crucial fact of the last journey of Gandhiji on this earth. The movie impresses to delve into the psyche of a very important community of the Indian society as it also tries to understand and explore their insecurities, apprehension, suffering and still holding an understanding to the call of their nation.
