Mahishasura Mardini Exclusively on Radio Misty

MUMBAI: Radio Misty 94.3 fm the first and Number one fm station of North Bengal will air exclusively   Mahishasura Mardini tomorrow on Mahalaya  in special arrangement with Saregama- soul of India. Mahalaya is an auspicious occasion observed seven days before Durga puja and heralds the advent of Durga the goddess of supreme power. It is an invocation and invitation to the mother goddess to rise, awake and descend on earth and annihilate the evils of the world by her Supreme Goodness.

The preparation for the Durga Puja begins much earlier but it is from the day of Mahalaya that the mind gets into the celebration. Since the early 1930s the â€?Mahishasura Mardini' or â€?The Annihilation of the Demon' has become an indispensable part of Mahalaya rendered by the enchanting voice of Birendra Krishna Bhadra through the Radio  waves and marks the beginning of â€?devipaksha' or the period of the Durga Puja.

Although it starts at late mid-night at around 4 am and last for two hours, the whole of Bengal rises to the scincillating rhythm of the hymns.
