eMusic Helps Vinyl Go Viral with Support of Record Store Day

MUMBAI: Download-and-discovery service eMusic has created a one-of-a-kind experience for music collectors and aficionados alike to celebrate the sixth annual Record Store Day. Paying its respects to music's most iconic medium, the eMusic site will feature a virtual hub where music lovers can see what fans are purchasing around the country, get recommendations from eMusic editors and even have the chance to win eMusic's Ultimate Vinyl Collection.

eMusic will leverage the encyclopedic musical knowledge of its editorial team and member activity to create an immersive, one-day experience on Record Store Day, an annual event aimed to raise awareness for and celebrate the unique culture of independently owned record stores.

Fans can go to eMusic's Record Store Day page ( www.emusic.com/record-store-day ) to view activity from record stores around the country in real-time through a virtual "heat map" of the US and the UK that will be populated throughout the day with Record Store Day-tagged Instagram photos (#RSD12).

A section of page will feature inspiring lists of recommended vinyl to pick up and enjoy on this symbolic day, as well as a running stream of live updates from eMusic's editors as they traverse their own favorite record stores.

Fans who share the eMusic Record Store Day page with their friends on Facebook can enter for a chance to win a 1-year eMusic subscription and the Ultimate Vinyl Collection -- a turntable-melting medley of the finest vinyl, curated by eMusic editors that would make any collector envious. eMusic is also giving away fifty 3-month subscriptions to eMusic. (Open for fans in the US or UK only from 4/20 -- 4/22.)

"eMusic has always been dedicated to music ownership and has long touted the importance of music collection to support the artists behind the music we love," said eMusic editor-in-chief J. Edward Keyes. "The hub that we've built to support Record Store Day is a great example of the many new site experiences and unique promotions that we've developed for true music collectors."

"We're delighted to have eMusic's support this Record Store Day," said Kim Bayley, Director General of the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA). "It's a day about supporting independent stores and artists, and eMusic and our indie record shops are both long champions of music. We encourage eMusic members to enjoy Record Store Day and visit their local record store and enjoy what this worldwide event has to offer."

Record Store Day was created in 2007, and now features exclusive releases from some of the world's biggest and most influential artists -- only available in participating stores on the day itself -- as well as a range of performances, parties and other special events.
