DD Bharati to telecast several programmes to mark International Women's Day

NEW DELHI: As the nation gears up to mark International Women’s Day, Doordarshan’s cultural channel DD Bharati is telecasting a series of programmes beginning today aimed at celebrating womanhood.

A special programme ‘Aadha Aakash Apna’ will be telecast at 8.00 pm to understand and appreciate womanhood.

In the classical music series at 9.00 pm through the week, there will be performances by renowned artistes including Bharat Ratna M S Subbalakshmi, Padma Bhushan Girija Devi, Padma Shree Rita Ganguly, Padma Shree Parveen Sultana, Classical vocalists from Pakistan Rehana and Parveen Mirza, Vocalists Saira Begum and Gulshan Ara, and Vidushi Kankana Banerjee,

Several programmes on women will be telecast on International Women’s day, 8 March. These include an interview of Kathak exponent Sitara Devi at 3.00 pm; a documentary called ‘Bharat ke Durg – Jhansi’ at 4.00 pm; documentaries on India’s first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and astronaut Kalpana Chawla at 8.00 pm; interview of Jnanpith award winner Dr. Pratibha Rai at 10 pm; and a film on Gender Violence, ‘Our Lives – To live’ at 10.30 pm.
