Court Rules In Favour Of Saregama For Apni Toh Jaise Taise Song

MUMBAI: The Hon'ble Division Bench of Calcutta High Court last Friday pronounced its judgment in favour of Saregama as being the rightful copyright owner of the song Apni Toh Jaise Taise' from the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Laawaris'. The ongoing dispute was with legal heirs of Prakash Mehra, who was the Producer of the film Laawaris' and also with its music composer duo of Kalyanji Anandji as they opposed the rights of Saregama. While vacating the ad-interim injunction granted by the single judge of the same court the division bench headed by Justice Sengupta observed that Saregama has all rights to grant license for use of the song Apni Toh Jaise Taise' in the new film Housefull'.

In a similar matter, recently Mr. B Subhash, producer of the movie Disco Dancer... had moved Bombay High Court opposing usage of the songs from the film Disco Dancer' in the forthcoming movies Anjaana Anjaani' by Sajid Nadiadwala and Golmaal 3' by Ashtavinayak Films. The license to use the songs from the movie Disco Dancer' was again granted by Saregama. After hearing submissions of the parties Hon'ble Justice Dharmadhikari of the Bombay High Court refused to pass any order granting ad-interim injunction from release of the movies.

Mr. Apurv Nagpal, MD of Saregama, while reacting to the judgments said, I have complete faith in the judicial system and the judgments re-establishes the same. People who are trying to disrepute Saregama will henceforth have to think twice....
