Mumbai: The internationally acclaimed Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan will be held in Mumbai from December 4-6, 2008. Now in its 32nd year, this festival of Hindustani classical music will bring together vocal and instrumental maestros that include Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Rajan & Sajan Mishra, Shri Gaurav Majumdar, Shri Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, Ganesh & Kumaresh and Shri Suhas Vyas.

The Sammelan, presented by Citi for the 18th consecutive year, will be held at Nehru Centre, Dr. Annie Besant Road, Worli. The event was first launched in 1977 by legendary Hindustani classical vocalist, the late Pt. C R Vyas, in memory of the famed classical music doyen of the Agra Gharana, the late Pt. Jagganathbuwa Purohit alias Gunidas, under the aegis of Maharashtra Lalit Kala Nidhi (MLKN).

Over the years, this prestigious annual festival held across four cities - Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi and Chennai - has become an important event on the Indian classical music calendar.

Commenting on the Sammelan, Pt. Satish Vyas, Santoor maestro and organizer of the event, said: “It is indeed a great sense of achievement to reach this milestone of 32 years of Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan. Today, the Sammelan is one of the rare events, which brings together exponents of Indian classical music - both vocal and instrumental - from various gharanas on the same platform. To be invited to perform in the Sammelan is like a dream come true for many upcoming artistes. Citi has been supporting us in this endeavor for the last seventeen years and it would not have been possible without their continuous support and active interest in keeping this tradition of Indian classical art.”

Highlighting Citi’s association with Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan, Mr. Sanjay Nayar, CEO, Citi South Asia, said, “Citi is committed to promoting Indian arts and culture. We are proud to play a part in supporting the cultural artistry of India through events like the Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan. This year, the Sammelan promises yet another season of expert classical renditions and interesting performances by some of India's most renowned exponents and upcoming talent.”

Season tickets are available at the venue and at Rhythm House, Kala Ghoda, from December 28th onwards.
