Chennai's Radio City 91.1FM celebrates 'World Earth Day'

MUMBAI: In its continued endeavour to contribute to the society in its 'Whatte Fun' style, Chennai's Radio City 91.1FM commemorated 'World Earth Day' in the city today. Adding further impetus to their efforts of propagating social awareness in the country, Chennai's Radio City, fuelled a desire of living in a 'pollution-free' environment! The environmental conscious FM station partnered with Chennai NGO - Exnora International to celebrate the day dedicated to Mother Earth. The FM station ushered this global movement by presenting an inspirational contest called 'Green Salute to Mother Earth' conceived with the sole purpose of spreading awareness on the hazards of global warming. The contest invited Chennai's Radio Cityzens to share few innovative liners on how to keep the city clean. Flooded with innumerable slogans - each with a will and a determination to make a significant change in the world, Radio City selected the best 10 responses as winners.

Concluding the Earth Day Celebrations in a 'natural' and refreshing style, Radio City helped the city breathe a new life by organising a tree plantation drive at T-Nagar in Chennai. Joining RJs Sulabha and Anandhakannan (Whatte Fun Mornings), RJ Gopi (Joyride), RJ Aarthi (City Spice) and RJ Archana (Enrendrum Punnagai) were the winners of the 'Green Salute to Mother Earth' contest who planted a large number of saplings around the area. Inspired by this act, many on-lookers came forward to participate in this noble gesture and together vowed to continue with this activity to make the world a better place to live in!

Commenting on the initiative Mr. Rana Barua, National Head - Programming and Marketing, Radio City 91.1FM said, "Radio City is recognized as a holistic radio station and we believe it is our responsibility to propagate special initiatives for the society. We undertook this activity since we believed it is the need of the hour. Joining hands with a well known NGO like Exnora International has helped us facilitate this initiative successfully within the city. We are extremely grateful to all our listeners for participating wholeheartedly in the contest as well as the plantation drive"
