A concert of Rare Melodies of Agra Gharana's, Ustad Raja Miyan

MUMBAI: Pancham Nishad, an organisation known for showcasing innovative concerts of Indian Classical Music by legendary musicians, presents to you yet another one of its kind concert with the torch bearer vocalist of Agra Gharana, Ustad Raja Miyan. The concert, which is a non-ticketed event presented in association with the Tata group with the support of Times Card & Y. B. Chavan Auditorium is scheduled to be held at Rangswar... auditorium, 4th floor, Y. B. Chavan Centre, Nariman Point, Mumbai on Friday, 24th July, 2009 at 7.00 p.m.

Ustad Raja Miyan is set to regale the discerning lovers of Indian Classical Music by singing some of the rarely heard melodies carrying the authentic stamp of the Agra Gharana Gayaki.

Agra Gharana is one of the most important Gharanas of Indian Classical Music. It has given India doyens such as Aftab-e-Mausiqui Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khan, Ustad Khadim Hussain Khan, Ustad Latafat Hussain, Ustad Sharafat Hussain Khan to name a few.

Raja Miyan, one of the foremost disciples of Padmabhushan Late Ustad Khadim Hussain Khan, has absorbed the best of Agra Gharana tradition. He was groomed to present the beauty in Bandish... with a special love for both Sur... and Bol... blended with a fine sense of Laya... rendered in a sweet, resonant and pliable voice, Raja Miyan's performances are true to the tradition of his Gharana. Marked by Dhrupad like �nom-tom' aalap, �bol-taans', �bol-banav' and �bol-baant'. Raja Miyan's gayaki is authentic and reflects the strong influence of his uncle Late Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan. Today it is no surprise that the music lovers consider Raja Miyan as the torch-bearer of �Agra Gharana' Gayaki.
