Samsung launches Corby Speed in India

MUMBAI: Samsung has another addition to its Corby family with the launch of its CDMA version called Corby Speed in India.

Capable of supporting data transfers of up to 2.4Mbps while relying on OMH (Open Market Handset) technology, the Corby Speed  will function will all networks that support OMH SIM cards, where among them include Tata Indicom, Reliance, MTS and Virgin Mobile.

Its other features include full touch screen sized 2.8 inch QVGA 262K TFT-LCD, comes with 80 MB internal memory, loaded with a 2 mega pixel camera, SNS support, microSD compatible 50MB + microSD (up to 8GB), in-build FM receiver and supports Poly 64, SP-Midi, i-melody, MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA music formats. Cory comes with a 960mAh battery.

The handset has the original Corby's trademarks of bold colours, pop-style contours and stand-out curved body design. Users can update current status and access friends' updates, live feeds on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. It also supports various social networking community sites by integrating leading User Generated Content sites such as Flickr, Picasa and Photobucket and other popular SNS sites including Facebook, MySpace and Friendster directly into the handset's user interface. Users can upload photos and videos to these SNS and User Generated Content sites.

Speed will be made available via various schemes by Tata Indicom. Tata Indicom are offering Postpaid users the 450 Corby plan which entitles then for a free 512 MB Net usage per month along with 10GB per 2 months as trail usage.

Corby Speed will also be made available to Tata Indicom prepaid users who can recharge as low as for Rs. 28.

Announcing the launch of Samsung Corby Speed, Samsung India Electronics Ltd. vice-president, mobile division Hendrick Lee said, "With the launch of the Corby Speed model, we are targeting the youth and young professionals who are looking for hi speed internet surfing , faster downloads , quick access to SNS and Instant messaging on their phone. The launch of this phone with OMH technology gives consumers the flexibility of choosing/changing an operator at his/ her will at any point in time."

The handset is available in three vibrant hues – Yellow , White and Black and is priced at Rs. 10,400.

Samsung also announced the launch of Mpower Muzik 219 and Duos 259 in February for further strengthening its CDMA portfolio. The Mpower Muzik 219 comes with dual speakers , music player, Bluetooth, menu options in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telegu and Bengali languages , FM recording to SD card memory,  1000mAh battery,  VGA Camera with video recording and expandable memory up to 2 GB. It is priced at Rs. 3599 

The Duos 259 is a GSM cum CDMA - dual standby phone. It comes with a 1.3 MP camera and video recording , Stereo FM and FM recording, MP3 Player, up to 8GB expandable memory, a 1140mAh battery, GPRS and Bluetooth. The handset is priced at Rs. 8350.
