Nokia unveils new generation of Asha handsets with Asha 501

MUMBAI: Nokia has unveiled a new generation of Asha handsets that run on the new Asha platform. The first from the portfolio is the dual-SIM smartphone Asha 501 in the global market.

The device is equipped with 3 inch QVGA capacitive touch-screen, 3.2MP camera, 4GB internal memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD, WiFi, bluetooth 3.0, microUSB 2.0, 2G, 3G and 1,200mAh battery.

The handset will enable users to download forty free EA Games from Nokia Store and is also embedded with a single 'back' button, Home and Fastlane screen, Nokia Xpress Browser, Nokia Xpress Now and applications like CNN, eBuddy, ESPN, Facebook, Foursquare, Line, LinkedIn, Nimbuzz, Pictelligent, The Weather Channel, Twitter, WeChat, World of Red Bull and games from Electronic Arts, Gameloft, Indiagames, Namco Bandai and Reliance Games.

Nokia Mobile Phones executive vice president Timo Toikkanen said, “The new Nokia Asha 501 raises the bar for what is possible in affordable smartphone design and optimization. The synergy between the physical design and the engine that is the new Asha platform has created a smartphone with both style and substance at a great price.”

The Nokia Asha 501 is expected to start shipping in June to more than 90 countries worldwide on 60 operators. The device is priced at $ 99.
