Raghu Ram: "I don't feel like hiring talent who don't feel for the property"

MUMBAI: In times where film and reality show producers are hiring young musicians to attract audience, popular reality show Roadies producer and judge Raghu Ram is quiet apprehensive when it comes to taking on new talent.

When quizzed about why he hasn't hired new talent to render or write the title track for the show, Raghu promptly replied, "I don't feel like hiring talent who don't feel for the property or the show, that's the reason why the first season didn't have a presenter and later on we had Ranvijay as he had credibility over there, being the first roadie and he knew about the whole journey. Till now there have been three songs that depict the philosophy of the show."

Roadies has featured three theme songs for its title out of which two songs 'Jeet lengey yaar' of season 5 is rendered by Agnee and 'Yaahan' of season 8 is sung by the band 'Airport'. Both the songs have been penned by Raghu. The latest season 'Roadies 9' also witnessed the singing talent of Raghu as he collaborated with Agnee for its new title track 'Manmani' penned by Abbas Tyrewala.

But the producer turned singer is not looking forward to take singing as a profession as he feels that he doesn't have proper training in singing. "I don't think I will come up with an album, as now-a-days a lot of people come up with an album because they can sing, but that should not be the case. There should be professionalism while producing an album like Sonu Nigam. So I don't think I would attempt it without training," he said.

Recently, the singer cum producer has also tried hands on acting by playing a negative role in Farah Khan's directorial 'Tees Maar Khan' which starred Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead. Speaking about his acting stint, Raghu stated, "I feel that people who are into performing arts are never into one thing, they are experiment their skills in various ways. There are so many actors who can sing or several musicians who can play drums as well as guitar. I have tried to express myself in whichever way I can through writing, directing or on camera."

Radio Mirchi RJs Suren and Meera who host 'Sunset Samosa' (5-9pm) came on-board as special 'Guest Editors' at Radioandmusic.com's (RnM) office and engaged in a special interaction with Raghu Ram contributing to the fifth anniversary celebrations.
