20-34 SEC AB Wk 44 RAM: 6 stations hold over 80% in 4 metros

The top six Radio Stations in the four metros of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore command a share of over 80% in the crucial SEC AB 20-34 demographic in all places of listening across the entire Week 44 (24 to 31 October 2010) per RAM data. The total market shares of the top six stations of this crucial demographic in each  metro are as follows: Delhi - 89.1%, Mumbai – 86%, Bangalore – 82.8% and Kolkata – 81.9%.

In Mumbai, Radio Mirchi leads by far with a share of 21.2% in the demographic, followed by Red FM at a strong Number Two with 17.4%, Radio City at 14.2%, Big FM at 13.4%, Fever FM at 12.8% and AIR FM1-Rainbow at 7%.

Together, the top six stations account for a whopping 86% of audience share.

Mumbai

In Delhi, amongst the 13 stations, just one, Fever FM, commands much over a quarter of the market share – in fact, at 29.6%, closer to a third of the market in this crucial demographic, and is therefore the runaway leader with a lead of close to 10% over the strong Number Two, Radio Mirchi, which commands a 19.8% market share. Radio City at 11.3% and Red FM at 10.2% are neck and neck at numbers three and four respectively, while Air FM2 Gold with 9.3 and Big FM with 8.9% are similarly close at numbers five and six respectively. In fact, apart from Fever FM and Radio Mirchi at one and two, the rest of the top 6 are very close to one another. Wait for Week 45's data to find out how the shares change, particularly across numbers 3 to 6.

Amongst them, the top six stations of Delhi command a whopping market share of 89.1% in this crucial segment.

In Bangalore too, just as in Mumbai, Radio  Mirchi is a strong Number One, with nearly a quarter of the market share in this crucial demographic. BIG FM is at Number Two with 14.7% , while only a difference of 0.4% separates Fever FM (12.6%) and SFM / Red FM (12.2%) at numbers three and four respectively. The same margin of 0.4% separates AIR FM1-Rainbow at Number 5 with 10.5% and Radio City at Number 6 with with 10.1%.

Together, the top six stations in Bangalore account for an 82.8% of  market share in this crucial demographic.

Bangalore

Just as Radio Mirchi rules this crucial demographic in Bangalore and Mumbai (where Red FM is a strong Number 2) and Fever FM is the biggest player by far in Delhi, Kolkata has been BIG FM's favourite hunting ground, and the station rules in the metro with a market share of  21.2%. the Number Two station in Kolkata, Friends FM with a market share of 18.2%, however, is closer to the market leader here than are the Numbers Two in the other cities, behind BIG FM by only a 3% market share.

However, Radio Mirchi with a 13% market share at Number 3 is behind Friends FM by close to 5% market share, and  at Number 4, Aamar FM is behind Radio Mirchi by a whisker with 12.8%, followed by Red FM at Number 5 with 10%, and Fever FM is a distant Number 6 with 6.7%.

Amongst them, the top six stations in Kolkata command a market share of  81.9% in this crucial demographic.
