NHS Choir replaces Bieber to #1 in UK Official Charts

MUMBAI: Justin Bieber’s unique run at the Top 2 of the UK Official Charts finally come to an end with the NHS Choir replacing the pop star, thanks to the single ‘A Brige Over You’. The British Choir beat the Canadian sensation by 31,000 sales, making total combined chart sales of 127,000.

NHS Choir’s charity single almost lost the battle to Bieber, as the latter had extended his sales by 7,000 by Tuesday. However, a performance at BBC’s Radio 2 Breakfast Show helped the choir, comprising of nurses, doctors and other NHS staff, replace the Bieber single ‘Love Yourself’ for the Christmas throne. Bieber’s singles- ‘Love Yourself’ and ‘Sorry’- still found place in the Top 3. Adele’s ‘Hello’ missed out on Top 3 for the second time since its release.

Last week, Bieber became the first artist to log four weeks at number 1 and number 2 for his singles. After beating The Beatles with that unique feat, losing the top spot at Christmas should have surely come as a bit of surprise for the 21-year-old. However, Bieber tweeted about the choir and asked fans to help the charity single reach the top spot.

One Direction’s ‘History’ made it to the Top 10 for the first time since its release. Louisa Johnson’s ‘Forever Young’, however, could not stay in the Top 2 in its second week.

Justin Bieber’s album ‘Purpose’ returned to the Top 3 Albums Chart, after being replaced by Coldplay’s ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ for the previous two weeks.

But what made news for the Albums Charts was Adele’s ‘25’, which became the official biggest selling album of Christmas. The fastest 2-million-selling album continued its impressive sales with 450,000 copies sold in the final shopping week before Christmas. This was not a bad week for Christmas releases, as Michael Buble’s ‘Christmas’ jumped from 15th to 12th position, and Kylie Minogue’s ‘Kylie Christmas’ finished two positions above, compared to previous week, at 20th.
