Broadcast media urged to do their best to help flood-affected people in southern Indian states

NEW DELHI: All television channels and radio stations have been asked by the Government to send relevant and vital information brought out by concerned government agencies for the people of Tamil Nadu and other southern Indian states affected by torrential rains and floods.

In an advisory, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry (I&B Ministry) said it was imperative that all information is broadcast that can assist those affected.

The advisory noted that Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR) apart from some other channels had been disseminating information about the efforts of the government and rescue agencies and even weather-related information, help-lines, and contact numbers of personnel that can be of help to the affected people.

Considering the enhanced gravity of the situation, it stressed the imperative need for dissemination of critical and vital information regarding all aspects of the disaster on real-time basis.
