Government hopes to earn over Rs 550 crore from e-auction of first batch of 135 FM Phase III stations

NEW DELHI:The Government hopes to earn an estimated Rs 550.18 crore from the e-auction of the first batch in Phase III of 135 FM Radio channels in 69 existing cities.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore told Parliament that the government has received a total of 28 applications for the first batch.

The auction is scheduled to start next month depending on completion of requisite formalities.

For the e-auction, closing date cannot be given as it depends upon the bidders' activity, the Minister added.

The first batch of 135 contains cities which already have FM channels, but there are some vacancies. These include the metros of Mumbai which has two vacancies and Delhi and Chennai which have one vacancy each.
