South Side Story: RED FM's 'sold out' gig enthralls Mumbaikars

MUMBAI: 93.5 RED FM wrapped up the first leg of South Side Story in Mumbai. RED FM’s unique and first-of-its-kind festival, focused towards bringing the music, cuisine and culture of South India to other regions. The festival took place today at Richardson and Cruddas, Mumbai, experienced a footfall of more than 1500 + attendees.

Commenting on the success of ‘South Side Story’ in Mumbai, RED FM and Magic FM COO and director Nisha Narayanan said, “Our entire team at RED FM is extremely happy with the overwhelming response received  from Mumbaikars, making the festival a sold out gig. The entire festival was curated keeping in mind the evolving dynamics in the Indian music scenario and bringing the unexplored regional culture to light in the metropolitan cities.”

“‘South Side Story’, an on-ground extension of RED Indies, is yet another step towards encouraging Independent artists and regional music across the country. We truly dedicate the success of ‘South Side Story’ to all our listeners and their unparalleled support. We are looking forward to the Delhi edition on 7 September and hope to see Delhites come in with as much enthusiasm as Mumbaikars did.”

The event commenced with the flavors of South with Sadhya- an elaborate lunch feast, spread on a banana leaf specially curated by South High. The melodious sounds of Chendavadyam, a percussion ensemble of drums from Kerala added to the celebration. Bringing in their excellence in contemporary music, Panchattva band mesmerized the audience with a soulful fusion of Indian classical music. Furthermore, Kalaripayattu, an Indian martial artform performed by trained artists, captivated the spectators with a breathtaking piece. The music performances started with the band Panchattva getting the stage started and ended on a high note with prominent Indie bands, Agam and Thaikuddam Bridge giving an electrifying performance that left the crowd swooning.

Be it food connoisseurs, music enthusiasts or anyone seeking an authentic cultural experience, the event had something in store for everyone. In addition to that, immersive theatre artists told fascinating tales of benevolent King Mahabali and Vamana in a fun and dramatic way. RED FM’s ‘South Side Story’ was nothing less than a treat for both Malayalis and Non-Malayalis who experienced the rich culture of South India, first-hand in Mumbai.

South Side Story will also take place in Delhi on 7 September at Zorba.
