Indigo aims to make Bengaluru shed sedentary tag with fitness show

MUMBAI: Bengaluru radio station, Indigo has taken an oath to make the city fit and healthy with the launch of ‘The Fitness Hour’ a first ever fitness show on radio.

‘The Fitness Hour’ will air every day at 7:10 a.m. and fitness trainer and Zumba expert Shewtambari Shetty will host the show along with celebrity sports nutritionist Ryan Fernando.

Shwetambari Shetty will take listeners through fitness activities, which include walking, running, cycling and functional training, while Ryan Fernando will advise listeners on their diet and nutrition.

Commenting on the launch of The Fitness Hour, Indigo CEO Satya Murthy said, “As a brand, Indigo is deeply entrenched with the fun and young Bangalore. It was, therefore, important for the brand to do something that engages with the target audience in their fitness regime. With this so, we become the first Indian FM radio station to launch a dedicated show on fitness, hosted by fitness & nutrition experts for the fitness community. With over 70 percent of the young, urban Bengalureans of the age group 18-35 indulging in fitness activities, launching a programme that curates the music and helps people who like to walk, runners, cyclists and functional trainers, to set and achieve milestones in their fitness goals forms our core offering".

Shwetambari Shetty said, “Years of IT has made lives sedentary and the pub culture has made big bellies, all this leading to many health issues. Now, Bangalore is slowly embracing fitness and we are on the path of making fitness a lifestyle and a trend. We are heading to become the fitness capital of the country. The Fitness Hour is a fabulous initiative by Indigo. They are committed to making Bangalore fit; and then music and fitness go hand in hand, so there is no better place than Indigo to experience both at their best”.

Ryan Fernando, counsels and consults clients who include two Guinness world record holders in feats of Human Endurance, two Olympic Medals with Wrestler Sushil Kumar and a list sports personalities like Robin Uthappa, Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Golfing Diva Sharmila Nicollet and a host of South Indian Film stars and CEO’s. Ryan has worked with Bollywood Superstar Aamir Khan with his nutrition-gene testing and bulked up a role in a wrestling movie releasing in 2016.

Ryan said, “Everyone is in a dieting race these days, which is why a show like this will help listeners understand the role of a well-balanced diet. The best part is that they need not go looking anywhere. It will all be available on air; all they need to do is switch on the radio, tune into Indigo and begin their fitness regime. I am excited about the launch and look forward to helping Bangalore stay fit”.
