MUMBAI: Meera Damji, one of Radio Mirchi Mumbai's star radio jockeys, bid adieu to the station last weekend.
She hosted the popular evening show The Meera and Suren Show, which was earlier called the Sunset Samosa show. According to Meera’s own admission on air, she is quitting the station in order to get married. She also hosted the Sunday Music Company, a weekend morning show from 9 to 11 am on Radio Mirchi. Meera is known for her wacky, energetic style of RJing and her ready wit and repartee with fellow host Suren.
Meera started her career as an OB jock with Radio Mirchi and was soon given an opportunity to host the night show Nitrogen. She started the Sunset Samosa show as a single host before Suren joined her. She had been poached by Big FM in late 2009 to host its breakfast show, but quit the station within two months. She has been a fixture on Mirchi ever since. Mirchi gave Meera a fulsome farewell last week with a spate of celebratory bye byes, filling up the Radio Mirchi social media pages.
While Meera says she is quitting the station to settle into matrimony, in this day and age of cut throat competition among stations, we are waiting with bated breath to see her next move.
