OYE!'s Women's Day contest winner gets RJing offer

MUMBAI: OYE! FM's Mumbai station wanted to make this Women's Day special for all their female listeners. So, the station decided to give women a chance to be an RJ on their radio station by simply participating in their 'Women's Day special' contest.

The contest was very simple - one had to participate in it by sending in an SMS on the number given on-air by OYE! FM's RJs - RJ Aditya, RJ Akriti, RJ Alok and RJ Nitin. These RJs ran the contest completely.

On receiving the entries from across the city, the team at OYE! selected 40 contestants who then went through a face off on-air. These contestants were then selected on the basis of listeners’ votes. Out of these, the final five were selected by Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor. However, the final winner of the contest was declared today by Kapoor.

The lucky winner Priyanka Avinash has bagged an RJing deal with OYE! FM in the weekend slot for almost a month. She will also be RJing tomorrow on Women's Day.

"I really wanted to win this contest as RJing is something that I wanted to do for long. I have finally got a chance and I just hope my show turns out to be a good one," stated Priyanka.

Priyanka has been married for seven years now and has a four-year-old daughter. She had to quit working as a teachers’ educator a few years ago to give more time to her daughter. This is something that she does not regret doing at all. But, she is completely looking forward to her new stint.

Talking about the unique initiative OYE! programming head Shradha Singh said, "We thought of doing something with housewives. That is when we came up with this idea because from the feedback that we have received women listen to the radio to get empowered. Here we were giving them an opportunity to get empowered."
