CR station at Namakkal in TN gets nod

MUMBAI: K S Rangaswamy Educational Institutions, Namakkal, Tamilnadu has signed a Grant of Permission Agreement with the ministry of information and broadcasting for operating a Community Radio Station.

The Community Radio Station is expected to be operational within three months as per the agreement. With this, the number of CRS will increase to 56 in the country.

The Community Radio will strengthen the reach of basic education in the area in and around Tiruchengode municipal panchayat. The broad objectives of the CRS are to empower women to become independent and carve a niche in the public, to bring awareness and to reach zero level in AIDS control, and also to cater to the intellectual and technological needs of rural students.

The Ministry encourages setting up the Community Radio Stations as it promises to provide an opportunity to the local communities to express themselves, share their views and particularly empower the women.
