NEW DELHI: All India Radio Delhi, will broadcast a special feature on Khudi Ram Bose who reportedly was the youngest freedom fighter ever hanged by the then British rulers. It will be aired in Hindi.

The feature ‘Agniputra’ is to be broadcast under the ‘Roopkon Ka Akhil Bhartiya Karyakram’ on 13 August at 9.30 pm on the Indraprastha channel of Delhi and national hook-up to coincide with Independence Day.

Bose (3 December 1889 – 11 August 1908) was a Bengali revolutionary. At the time of his hanging, he was 18 years, 8 months 8 days old.

Khudiram was inspired to join the freedom struggle when Sri Aurobindo and sister Nivedita visited Medinipur and held a series of public lectures along with secret planning sessions with the revolutionary groups in 1902-03.

At the young age of 16, Bose planted bombs near police stations and targeted government officials. He was arrested three years later on charges of conducting a series of bomb attacks. The specific bombing for which he was sentenced to death resulted in the death of 3 persons.

On the evening of 30th April 1908, he threw bombs at a carriage carrying Britishers in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. He was arrested shortly thereafter and sentenced to death after a hurried trial.
