AIR FM Gold airs programme on the versatile Mohammed Rafi

NEW DELHI: 'The Versatile Rafi' a series presented by Danish Iqbal on by All India Radio's FM Gold will be repeated on the singer's 34th death anniversary on 31 July. The show will be repeated once again on his birth anniversary.

The programme was based on interviews with writer and journalist Vinod Viplav who had written the first biography on the singer 'Meri Awaaz Suno' in 2007. An Urdu Edition of this biography is now under publication.

Viplav is now editing “World of Rafi / Rafi Ka Sansar – A Voyage into the Melodious World of Mohammad Rafi" as a coffee table volume which will be brought out to coincide with his 34th death anniversary of the singer on 31 July in Delhi.Following are the links of all eight parts of this Radio Programme.

Rafi is primarily noted for his songs in Hindustani, over which he had a strong command. He sang in other Indian languages including Assamese, Konkani, Bhojpuri, Oriya, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Sindhi, Kannada, Gujarati, Telugu, Maghi, Maithili and Urdu. He also recorded a few songs in English, Persian, Spanish and Dutch. From available figures, Rafi sang 4,516 Hindi film songs, 112 non-Hindi film songs, and 328 private (non-film) songs from 1945 to 1980.
