Andhra Pradesh gets second All India Radio regional news unit

NEW DELHI: A regional news unit of All India Radio Visakhapatnam at Siripuram was inaugurated by Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.

Parliament had been told recently that the decision to keep the regional news units in the respective states had been taken to give a local flavor to the news bulletins.

The 45 Regional News Units (RNUs) put out 469 daily news bulletins in 75 languages. This includes 314 headlines bulletins mounted on FM Rainbow and from 40 AIR Stations.

Second of its kind in the State after Vijayawada, the RNU will air news bulletins on primary channel of AIR Visakhapatnam on frequency of 927 kHz (323.6 M).

From 27 news bulletins in 1939-40, AIR today puts out 647 bulletins daily around 56 hours in 90 languages/dialects in the Home, Regional and External Services. Out of these, 178 bulletins are broadcast daily from Delhi in 33 languages.
