Shazam adds 13 million users per month

MUMBAI: Music identification service Shazam revealed that it is adding 13 million users per month and the app has been downloaded by more than half a billion mobile users. It has surpassed more than 100 million mobile monthly active users.

The company claimed that it has witnessed a 34 per cent increase as compared to last year.

Talking about the 100 million mobile monthly active users, the company claimed that was only achieved previously by services like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Shazam CEO Rich Riley said, "Shazam is evolving from being a way to identify a song to a way for people to explore and connect with the world around them. Shazam now delivers a deeper discovery and content experience for music and TV, with retail, cinema and more coming soon. Our rapid user growth and engagement demonstrates that consumers are hungry for an immersive mobile experience."

In July last year, Shazam raised $40 million from billionaire Carlos Slim's America Movil, in exchange for an estimated 10 per cent stake, according to various reports.

Recently, the app's speed was improved allowing searches to be found in four seconds and the company has included a group of over 120 scientists and engineers who join Shazam's product and engineering team.

The app has monthly updates on iOS and Android which enhance functionality, including auto Shazam, Newsfeed, streaming integration and a few others.

In a couple of years, growth of music search on TV with the app has doubled due to events such as the Super Bowl or the Grammys. In 2014, over 30 per cent of US users have Shazamed TV.
