VOI Jeans and Wild City to launch VOI Nights with Robot Koch

MUMBAI: With an eye on introducing the freshest music from India and round the world, British apparel company VOI Jeans, in association with Wild City – an online music magazine, has launched VOI Nights, a new music property. The first-ever VOI Nights will showcase highly rated German producer Robot Koch on a three-city tour. Robot Koch will travel to Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore from 26-28 November.

Koch will tour India close on the heels of the release of his new album, ‘Hypermoment’.

A pioneering producer who has worked with musicians as diverse as house music producer Tensnake, sitar player Anoushka Shankar and singer-songwriter Norah Jones, and German genre-bending act Modeselektor, Koch is a known name for Indian fans after his appearance at Magnetic Fields Festival in December 2013. His rework of the famous The Mamas and The Papas song, ‘California Dreamin’ featuring Delhia de France – used for the trailer of the apocalyptic film, ‘San Andreas’ featuring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson – also earned him new fans earlier this year.

Koch – who has described his music ‘like Motown but with lasers’ – is back with an album after a gap of four years. ‘Hypermoment’ is a pulsating follow-up to the EP, ‘TSUKI’, which also featured two collaborations with Indian producer Curtain Blue.

To be released on 25 November, a day before the start of the tour, ‘Hypermoment’ is a true evolution of Koch’s sound and style. Driving deeper into more intimate territory with swathes of warm, saturated, analogue sounds, real world field recordings, and lush pianos and soundscapes, ‘Hypermoment’ also marks the debut of Robot Koch the singer – he has sung on three tracks, ‘Care’, ‘Serenade’ and ‘Fernwood’.

The field recordings were captured along his nomadic writing trips to New York, Berlin, the infamous Joshua Tree in California, as well as his new home base of Silver Lake in Los Angeles.

Curtain Blue, who is supporting Koch on the Indian tour, is featured as one of the collaborators on the opening track of the album, ‘Circles’, along with Delhia de France.

While being Koch’s most rounded work, ‘Hypermoment’ is also his most personal to date, dealing with break-ups, culture clashes, and intercontinental transitions.

The ‘Hypermoment’ album tour will visit Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore and feature some of the most interesting names from India’s alternative music scene like Delhi-based producer Curtain Blue, Mumbai-based indie-pop artist- Your Chin, and Bangalore’s inventive electronic music producer, _RHL. This tour will also see the debut of Nicholson’s solo set in Mumbai.
