BookMyShow to bring 'Mughal-e-Azam' back to Delhi

MUMBAI: Some stories are immortal, some are timeless and some, classic, but the love saga of Anarkali and Salim is all three of them! After having entertained theatre-lovers globally, with raving reviews and standing ovations by over 2,50,000 audiences, Mughal-e-Azam bows down to Delhi’s popular demand, making a comeback for its latest season.

BookMyShow, India’s leading entertainment destination is bringing the third season of the blockbuster musical starting 6 April 2019. Directed by Feroz Abbas Khan and produced by Shapoorji Pallonji, this unmissable production will find its home at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

With an enviable cast, glamorous costumes, mesmerizing music and intricacy of its sets, Mughal-e- Azam beautifully captures the chronicles of Salim and Anarkali’s love story. Set in the backdrop of the 16th century, Mughal-e-Azam follows the story of Prince Salim who falls in love with the exquisite commoner Anarkali in the court of Mughal Emperor Akbar. The twist in the plot is introduced when Salim’s father, Akbar, disapproves of his romance and a mighty ego battle ensues. The glamour of Manish Malhotra costumes combined with the technical expertise of Broadway and original hit songs - Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya and Teri Mehfil Mein Kismat Aazma Kar, - the production promises to be an exhilarating experience.

“After two successful seasons of standing ovations in packed houses, popular demand for the show has encouraged us to bring back the grand musical to Delhi. We want to give more and more people the opportunity to be a part of this amazing experience. Mughal-e-Azam is an extravagant production that simply cannot be missed,” said BookMyShow Live Entertainment COO Albert Almeida.

He added, “A classic 16th century love story presented through the lens of a modern day musical that’s Mughal-e-Azam for you! We hope audiences love the production as much as they did for the iconic love story.”

Talking about the musical, director Feroz Abbas Khan said, “Mughal-E-Azam is a story with a heart that has created a legacy amongst its patrons. Our performance of this iconic love story is a tribute to its timelessness. It gives us immense pleasure to host the 175th show, a milestone in this masterpiece’s journey, in the capital.”

Mughal-e-Azam Creative and Strategic Vision Deepesh Salgia said, “Four international and two domestic seasons later, we are thrilled to present Mughal-e-Azam once again in Delhi. Shapoorji Pallonji is a strong believer in furthering the reach of Indian art and culture to varied audiences, including a large number of foreigners who have now become regulars at the show.”

Bringing the historic tale to life is the stellar cast which includes Priyanka Barve, Neha Sargam, Nissar Khan, Dhanveer Singh, Shahab Ali, Ashima Mahajan and others. The musical is choreographed by Mayuri Upadhya. The ticket sales will be live on BookMyShow from today.
