Muzik247 to acquire music for 20-25 Malayalam films, and release non-film music

MUMBAI: Last November, Muzik247 joined hands with Believe Digital to strengthen its digital presence across the globe, by making its content made available to Malayali diaspora. Presently, the company, which is one of the leading music labels in Kerala, plans to continue acquiring the music for as many as 20-25 films in this calendar year, while also releasing non-film music under its banner.

Muzik247 has acquired the music of blockbusters like ‘Premam’, ‘Vikramadithyan’, ‘Bangalore Days’ and 'How Old Are You’, amongst many others. Commenting on the same Muzik 247 head of operations Syed Zameer said, “Recently, we acquired the music rights of two new films- ‘KL10Pathu’ and ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’. We have big projects lined-up for the coming festive season. However, I cannot reveal their names, as negotiations are on for the same. For Eid, we had a non-film album titled, 'Nilathattam' along with the music of the film ‘KL10Pathu’.” He also revealed that there will be new releases for Onam and Diwali.

Revealing his plans for film and non-film music, Zameer added, “The idea is to acquire interesting and quality content. Muzik247 has acquired the music of many blockbuster films in the past. This reflects our market share in Kerala.” The company, which has about 60 per cent market share in the state, acquires film music based on its star cast, music composers and most importantly, quality music.

The label’s catalogue is present on several Indian streaming services like Saavn, Wynk and Gaana, among others. Meanwhile, music distribution company, Believe Digital, is ensuring Muzik247’s catalogues are available in various regions across the world. Zameer said, “We happy to reach regions that we were not present in before.”

When asked to comment on the growth in CRBT business, he said, “CRBT is a driving force for the music industry; it helps the audio industry sustain itself. We are quite satisfied with CRBT consumption.” He also said that a film like ‘Premam’ was followed by good amount of downloads. He also stressed that the reason for the same is the recall value attached with the latest content.

The music label recently released a romantic mappila album titled, 'Nilathattam' which has names like Najim Arshad, Anweshaa, Chinmayi, Ranjith, Shilpa Raju, Praseeda Govardhan, Afzal Yusuff, Najim Arshad, Sithara and Sachin Warrier. “Non-film music is not very popular as it takes a beating from film music. However, for this non-film album 'Nilathattam', we employed popular artists,” said Zameer. “Tracks from the album were even picked up by a radio station, which is very rare in the case of non-film music.” He also added that YouTube and radio have been torch-bearers for music content as music consumed through these platforms are later consumed through other digital formats.

Each track from the album will have a music video which will be released over the span of a few months.

He also stressed that Muzik247 will release several non-film projects under its banner.

This year has been interesting for the company, as film music under its brand has won awards in various categories across award functions like Filmfare and Asianet Awards.
