Music label Muzik 247 and Believe Digital join hands for distribution deal

MUMBAI: Independent music distribution company, Believe Digital inked a deal with Malayalam Music Label Muzik 247. Most of the catalogue of Muzik 247 will soon be made available on major online stores like iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Deezer, GooglePlay, Rdio and more.

Believe Digital India country manager Vivek Raina said, "The deal is an important step forward to strengthen Indian Regional content as Believe and Muzik 247 will work together to enhance the user experience for all Malayalam music lovers on digital music services globally."

The focus area for the catalogue is India, US and UK. However, Believe will also be working on territories like Middle-East, which has large Malayalam speaking diaspora.

Kerala-based label company has been very aggressive in the Malayalam film music space for over the last two years. Muzik 247 head of operations Syed Zameer said, "We are happy to be associated with Believe Digital whose presence in India is strengthening by the region. Our content acquisition has been of primary importance to our leadership in this region and quality films with great content value are the focus that we have in this region." The label has more than 50 per cent market share in the state as it has been acquiring big-budget and multi-starrer films. "We will not limit ourselves to big budget films in 2015 but will acquire music rights of small budget films which will have good music content," added Zameer. The label had a market share of over 60 per cent in the year 2013 and 2014 so far.

'Mylanchi Monjulla Veedu’, 'Iyobinte Pusthakam’ and 'Ormayundo Ee Mukham’ are the most recent acquisition of the label.

The record label has acquired the soundtrack and song video rights to some of the most successful Malayalam movies  like 'Bangalore Days’, 'How Old Are You’, '7th Day’, 'Vikramadithyan, Sapthamashree Thaskaraha’ to name a few. Zameer said, "This year we are in a leadership position because of all the good music we acquired and the success most of the films achieved through us. We hope to continue the leadership position in the coming years. The deal with Believe Digital will lead us to achieve that target."

Currently, the label company is not into non-film music but might soon add other genres of music like devotional and folk music.
