Sony Music Entertainment seals joint venture with CeeLo Green

MUMBAI: Sony Music Entertainment has signed a label joint venture with CeeLo Green, which will see the singer’s Mothership Entertainment Group discover, sign and develop R&B/soul artists for the music company.

As per the terms of the joint venture, Green will be opening up recording studios in Atlanta and Las Vegas that will be fully funded by Sony Music, and will be directly working with new artists that he signs. Additionally, Mothership Entertainment will have the ability to sign any of the artists he works with under any of Sony Music’s sub-labels.

Speaking on the joint venture, Sony Music Entertainment CEO Doug Morris said, “CeeLo Green is a tremendously successful songwriter, producer and artist who have proven him to be a gifted and versatile talent. We look forward to developing great new artists and music through our new relationship.”

Green, explaining the name- Mothership, said that it was chosen in honor of his mother and grandmother, who left him an “inheritance of emotion, instinct, inner vision and industry.” He added that he was “honored to stand beside, and in extension of Sony, with a keen sense of appreciation for this opportunity.”

Previously, the 41-year old musician has been a member of Goodie Mob, and later of Gnarls Barkley with Danger Mouse. Early last month, the Grammy Award winner released his solo album ‘Heart Blanche’.
