Noted saxophonist Manohari Singh passes away

MUMBAI: Well renowned saxophonist Manohari Singh who was also the music assistant of late music director R D Burman passed away here on Tuesday at the age of 79 due to a cardiac arrest. Born in Kolkata on 8 March 1931 in a family of musicians, Manohari Singh watched his father and uncle play in music studios for films and in night-clubs. After trying his hand at the English key flute, the clarinet and the mandolin, Manohari Singh finally chose the saxophone as his forte. He got his first break in 1958 with Sachin Dev Burman as a saxophonist for the movie "Sitaron Se Aage". ...
