MUMBAI: A survey conducted in San Diego by Sonoro audio states that despite the wide popularity of portable music sources, consumers prefer to listen to some form of radio more than MP3 players and CDs. The study states, 57 percent of the time is spent listening to some form of radio, AM, FM or Internet. According to Arbitron and Edison Media Research, 33 million Americans 12 and older listen to Internet radio stations during the week, up from 29 million in 2006 ...

Sun TVs SFM to launch in Kochi on 21 May

MUMBAI: Sun TV Network Kal Radio is launching its FM station SFM in Kochi on 21 May. The launch is through subsidiary company Kal Radio. With this, SFM's total number of stations have gone up to 38 in India. SFM already operates in Chennai, Combaitore, Tirunelveli, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Tirupati, Madurai, Tuticorin, Lucknow, Bhopal, Pondicherry, Calicut, Indore, Vijayawada, Varanasi, Tiruchy, Rajahmundry and Kanpur among others. SFM will launch seven more stations across the country as it holds license for 45 stations across the country....

Trai starts consultation on satellite radio policy

NEW DELHI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India today initiated a consultation process on the draft Satellite Radio policy, which envisages two types of licenses: one for providing the satellite radio service for carriage and broadcasting of channels and the other that entitles the licensee to register the radio channels it carries on its platform. A press statement from the sector regulator says that consultation is on the draft policy as proposed by the information and broadcasting ministry. ...
