NEW DELHI: The projected annual growth of the television and FM radio industries has gone up to 22 and 24 per cent respectively as a result of the liberal policy framework over the past few years which had increased competition and helped introduce new technologies and services.
Stating this, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Anand Sharma said today that the number of private TV channels uplinking from India had increased to 376 from 131 at the end of 2004, including 200 news and current affairs channels.

The college representatives signed their GOPA (Grant of Permission Agreement) last week in Delhi with the Information and Broadcasting ministry. The GOPA agreement allows the institute to purchase a transmitter and the college has submitted relevant documents to obtain the WOL (Wireless Operating License).

MUMBAI: Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain kept the Indian flag flying with his collaborative album 'Global Drum Project' winning in the Contemporary World Music Album category.
The 51st Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles on Sunday evening. Hussain worked with Mickey Hart of the rock band 'Grateful Dead', Nigerian percussionist Sikiru Adepoju and Puerto Rican jazz percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo for the album.

MUMBAI: Dish Network has launched FM channel Radio City on its platform in the US.
According to a company spokesperson, Radio City has commenced providing non-music content for the Dish Network's DTH platform in the United States. This is part of the brand's alternate revenue stream as part of which Radio City has previously also syndicated non-music content to international radio broadcasters across US, North America and the APAC region.

PUNE: At the seminar on intellectual property rights at music expo Baajaa Gaajaa in Pune over the weekend, classical vocalist Shubha Mudgal suggested a separate regulatory body for independent artistes,"Why can't we have an independent body like the PPL and IPRS only meant for independent artistes?" Mudgal questioned.
With respect to the present law, Professor TN Daruwala answered, "You can't have a collective society - IPRS is that soceity."
