MUMBAI: Prasar Bharati has no proposal to reduce the number of All India Radio (AIR) stations.
The information was given by information and broadcasting minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi in written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
Prasar Bharati said that the number of AIR stations will not be reduced by setting up one powerful station for each State and thereby saving huge expenditure. Power consumption of a single powerful station is much more than that required by smaller stations to cover the populated area.

MUMBAI: Sun TV, through its subsidiary Kal Radio, is launching its FM station at Kannur on 12 March under the brand name SFM.
With this launch, the network will have 25 stations all across the country.SFM is already operational Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Tirupati, Madurai, Tuticorin, Lucknow, Bhopal, Pondicherry, Kozhikode (Calicut), Indore, Vijayawada, Varanasi, Tiruchy, Rajahmundry, Kanpur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Mangalore
The company will launch 20 more stations to complete 45 stations in India.
